Josh Bandoch
Real estate is an enormous industry and evolving daily. Beyond the “deal” is a world working to constantly grow, and that means real estate in all forms. Building a real estate solution for a customer is one thing, but creating a process and understanding of using and utilizing real estate in and for a community is very different. It is much more. In Chicago, we are drowning in problems that are curable. Not only within real estate. As generations of Americans we have outgrown yesterday as it was. But we have to understand first.
Enter Illinois Policy and Josh Bandoch. I think this is a perfect interview for us, the future real estate Legends. We need to better understand change and the potential foundation it creates. It is about where to start, and more importantly, how. It is there to be had if we have the will. Cooperation is key and hard to find now. “Hurrah for me” is the cry for today, using fear and bad reasons for thoughtless actions in business. Thoughtful is not valued as outcome seems to be acceptable answers short term. This has led to problems we are facing now, and Josh has studied the effects in Chicago and Illinois.
When I met Josh, I was quickly impressed at his background and who he was. Sometimes when you talk to a specialist or generalist outside your industry, it has challenges of either accuracy or focus. With Josh, I get understanding of real estate and more as he has personal skills to boost his professional knowledge and area. But as this is about Chicago, I don’t want to talk about theory, but rather about action. In local real estate, I think we collectively know what to do, but have not implemented it and that must change. Josh’s new book, “How To Get What You Want!” is about change. I think most of us need this book. It is about how you can be more and do more. That is so much of life, and real estate is the poster child of more today.
Real estate is often a second career in life, it is and was for me. Josh has a similar path with policy. How he got there was not one fell action, but a progression of designed actions. In any community, there are levels of interest and conflict. In a larger and more sophisticated market with generations of activity and people, it is hard to identify who is who and understand it all. Josh sees that, and addresses the need of how to scratch it in his book. Reading about his experiences and background will help you with your own personal journey. He teaches as he writes.
Housing! This is personal, Josh comes from a background and history where he values and has lived the full spectrum of housing needs from peoples of every color, age and background. He has studied this for years and it has created a frame of reference that is unique. It fits well with politics, policy…and real estate. It is everything you could imagine balled up in the decisions we make in real estate; decisions that keep getting bigger everyday. How, where and why are important to our future. Josh has an understanding that starts with people, not policy. People drive the policy when done right, and Josh has refined and committed to this position in his life and career. It is perhaps the “rudder” to the real estate boat that still floats. But rudders steer, they need an engine. We are the engine and the fuel.
Real estate is about people, yet this is the first Legend to be from “outside” the industry. Josh is not licensed in real estate but his message resonates very much in our real estate community. Change is afoot and so are the players. I think that as the industry of real estate grows it incorporates better thinking, creating better outcomes. Better housing and homes for all. Better outcomes that positively affect our clients and we Realtors, every day. Learn as much as you can for you and your loved ones futures. Josh is a good teacher to start, and his book lays it all out for you.
